The Asian Business Student Association (ABSA) is an upcoming organization at Lamar University that aspires to provide resources for Lamar students to add to their professional skill set. ABSA aims to equip students with essential skills, such as leadership, networking, professional development, and community service which will be beneficial for their career success. Members of ABSA do not have to be of Asian descent or majoring in business and should include those willing to participate in the effort to encourage and promote the culture of Asian students and multicultural awareness.
About ABSA
How we started
“There was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable, underrepresented people. After discussions with Krystal Le on how to go about doing so, ABSA was born. I have gotten to work with Le on a number of successful projects like the Asian Night Market, and she has been my ‘right-hand man since day one. As former president of award-winning organization VSA, I plan to minimize weaknesses and maximize strengths. Serving as an inaugural co-founder, I am confident that [ABSA’s] potential is only limited by our imagination, and we have the proper leaders in place to truly become a successful organization in all aspects.”
Dion Tran
Cofounder and President
“I took an exploration trip through Asia this summer and am very connected to my Vietnamese heritage/culture. As such, [ABSA] has some great cultural ideas that Lamar University has never seen before, and I cannot wait to showcase them! After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, starting an organization like ABSA will provide not only Asian-Americans but anyone interested, a proper support system and the ability to step out of their comfort zone! With both our leadership experiences combined, I know that we can lead by example and make few mistakes.”
